One of the most helpful accessories that you can have for touring on your motorcycle and also in your car is a GPS. Not only can you find your way anywhere without getting lost, you can find interesting routes and roads to try that you didn't know were there! With the optiomal GTM 11, you can also avoid traffic tie-ups with several models.

Love winding roads? You can see what direction and how tight each curve is well in advance. There is never a doubt when you have a GPS.

  • Have you found new roads or locations that you have enjoyed? Keep them programmed in your GPS for future use.
  • Get caught in a traffic jam? Find the easiest route around it.
  • Weather turns bad and you want to get home quick? Ask it for the fastest or shortest ride home. The GPS can help protect your safety.

A GPS works in any weather conditions, 24 hours a day. GPS receivers require an unobstructed view of the sky, so they are used only outdoors.

There are no subscription fees or setup charges to use GPS

XM and traffic routing features are subscription based

GPS 101

This is great stuff!

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is run by the US Air Force. It is a satellite-based navigation system that always has 24 satellites in the sky at the same time.

They orbit around the world twice a day, transmitting their precise location and time to the earth at the speed of light. The satellites are synchronized to do this at the same time, but because they are in different locations, this information arrives at slightly different times.

The Garmin GPS units do not transmit any signals themselves, but receive the signals from the satellites (it likes to get 4) and calculates the time difference. The GPS, using the location information that the satellites send, combines the information to find it's exact location.
